Here's what happened when I learned I had kidney cancer:
As Catherine said on the video, it's so important for everyone to learn all they can about becoming an organ donor. Some great online resources include the National Foundation for Transplants and the National Kidney Foundation (which has posted a review of my book by heart transplant recipient Jim Gleason).
About
Claudia,
Thank you for sharing your story. "Without you there is no me" is a powerful message that I hope many will hear over time.
It wasn’t until a few years ago, after working on a PR campaign for the National Kidney Foundation, that I could fully appreciate the need for (organ/tissue) donors to come forward in support the thousands of people waiting on life-saving transplants. My hope is that more people will come to understand that identifying yourself as a donor is a simple process and that it is vitally important to inform your family or other loved ones of your donation wishes.
I commend all of the brave individuals, like your sister, who willingly give others in our community a second chance at life. May their courageous actions be an inspiration to all!
